Sudden "Database Connection Error" on previously working site

    We had several wp sites on a Dedicated server. All working fine. When day before yesterday they all got “Cannot connect to database” errors.

    We can access the databases thru phpmyadmin using the login info that is in wp-config.php so we know that that is correct.

    We have a joomla installation that is working fine and accesses the database in the same manner as the wordpress sites do.

    This seems to be a database connection problem unique to wordpress.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Rebooted the MySQL server and solved the problem. Turned out the Joomla site was actually using a database on another server which is why it wasn’t affect.

    So — after you have double and triple checked your wp-config, checked phpmyadmin with the SAME access info in wp-config and it works fine, THEN and only then should you maybe consider rebooting the server or at least the MYSQL server.
