• Once this month one of my subsites got mysteriously deleted. A second time it was archived. I was able to log into my hosting service and restore from the backup. But why might this be happening? This is a site for a non-profit. I have 2 remote partners who have admin-level logins and the owner of the business has a super admin-level login. After the first time this happened, I had everybody reset their passwords. I have no clue as to how this could be happening? Any ideas? Any tips on how I can secure my network to prevent this from happening again?

There are a number of possible measures you might apply as discussed in Hardening WordPress. Not all are appropriate for everyone, but anything implemented will help to some degree. Also consider using a security plugin.

I’m not convinced this is due to an unauthorized user gaining access via some hack. While that’s a possibility, it could be due to an innocent blunder by an authorized user. Site hacks tend to be more obvious than deleting a site, like injection of pharma ads. But if the cause appears to be from unauthorized access, review the recommendations on responding to a hacking incident.

IMO, keeping good backups is the best defense against unwanted actions from any cause. There are a number of plugins that make this relatively painless.
