I received an e-mail message that somebody registered at my site and when I check the users on my admin panel they are listed as a subscriber. The thing is I do not have any place on my site where people can subscribe to it. The only thing I do see is at the bottom of my pages the option to follow the entry through RSS. Is this the way people subscribe and what exactly does it mean? My site is http://www.thesouthafricaguide.com
(My apologies in advance if this is a stupid question and if the answer is obvious) 🙂

Subscriber is the default role someone is assigned. It means they can read, comment, and nothing more 🙂

I realize that – I am trying to work out how anybody could even subscribe to my site without me having a plug in installed that allows people to subscribe.

No plugin needed. Did you leave Registrations open?

When someone REGISTERS on your site (I.e. Signs up and makes an id), they are given the role of Subscriber. Being able to register for a site is built in to WordPress. If you don’t want ’em to make IDs, you turn it off. If you do, you get subscribers. Nothing abnormal.

    Thanks 🙂
