subscribe to categories help

I need to make a link where a person can click a link to subscribe to a category. I have seen the codex and understand it. But all those solutions point to the idea that I will know the category name and will hard code this in. I do not know that information. I am looking for code that will figure out what the category being viewed is and make a link according to that. Do you have any ideas?
