subpage list limiting

Ive got a parent page with say 10 subpages. When i click on a sub page i’d like to be able to list the subpages on the same level but limit their number to say 5?

Also id like that list of five to not include the current subpage. I could just exclude the page id but i want it to work regardless of which subpage you go onto and not have to write a new tempate for each subpage.

The codex List subpages even if on subpages starts this off but can anyone help with limiting the posts and excluding the current subpage?
