I am updating the website kitchen-worktops-store.co.uk, where I was running version 2.8.9 of your plugin. In testing the update on development site dws.gordonlundie.com, I noticed that I can’t get the trigger buttons for the submenus to show. I went through all the settings and it’s all enabled, but when I look at the source code for the old version, I can see a <span class="appendLink rm-append-inactive">▼</span> for the trigger buttons after each parent item li element. In the new version, there’s nothing there. Have I missed something?
On a separate note, I know I have skipped a few versions (2.8.9 to 3.1.13) which is the client’s fault for not having the site updated more often, but I still can’t understand why the new version couldn’t use the settings from the old one (at least basic things like text and hover colors) instead of forcing users to go through the whole setup again. Rather than an update, it’s basically like installing a brand new plugin. I use this on many other sites and I’m now dreading similar future updates as it’s taking me absolute ages to re-build everything from scratch. The old plugin at least had an import/export feature, but this doesn’t seem to be there any more.

    Hey there,

Upgrading to version 3 now is unfortunately going to be quite problematic and you will likely need to essentially start from scratch.

The update to version 3 happened 2 years ago so there is no longer any support for version 2 or for the transfer from 2 to 3.

The whole code was re-written so all of the class names, IDs, HTML etc. has changed.

There is still an Import/Export feature but it won’t work from version 2 to version 3.

Looking at your site I don’t see anything added to the trigger icons options, can you let me know what you have in there?

    Hi there,

no worries about the update, it’s inconvenient but I’ll deal with it. Right now my main problem is getting the trigger icons to show on dws.gordonlundie.com, which for some reason they are not. They are enabled in the backend and I haven’t changed any of the defaults settings:
    – Position: right
    – Active and inactive shapes are set as ▲ and ▼
    – Height and width are 40px
    – Trigger colours are all #fff
    – Trigger backgrounds & borders are my custom theme colours
    – Padding is all as default
    – Animations are all off
    – Breakpoint is 800px
When I look at the source code, there’s just no element there for the triggers, so it’s not a CSS issue. Maybe a weird JS conflict? I’m not sure where to look for this. Thanks.

    Hi there,

Do you have a plugin called Menu Image or something similar installed?

It seems to be overwriting a lot of my HTML output, so I would guess this is a reason. This conflict has been known for 2 years now and the author of that plugin knows how to fix it, but still seems not to which is disappointing.

    Please let me know

That’s it, thanks Peter. Disabled Menu Image and the triggers are back. I will have to find an alternative to Menu Image anyway, as sadly it’s no longer supported. Yet more work…

    Hey there,

Oh I didn’t realise it wasn’t supported anymore, in that case I doubt it will ever be fixed 🙁

What were the images you were adding as you can add custom images or icons to each menu item using my plugin anyway.

The images were for another menu, not the one that needs responsifying. It’s just a series of thumbnails and links, it doesn’t really need to be a custom menu to be honest, I can just create a custom block and write some static code for it. I was trying to make all elements editable by the client, but he hasn’t touched that menu since launch so in hindsight I needn’t have bothered… Thanks again.

    Hey there,

Fair enough. Hopefully someone will resurrect that plugin one day and fix the conflict in there but I wouldn’t hold out much hope 🙁
