• Hello,

a friend came to me with a problem I have no idea how to solve (or even if it is possible).
He is trying to create a subfolder (containing phpBB forums) on a WordPress multisite installation (subdomain setup), basically to have something like site1.example.com/forum (where site1 is one of WP network sites running under main WP installation on example.com).

Is such thing even possible? I couldn’t figure out where should we place the folder to make it work (I tried the wp-content/blogs.dir/number, but that didn’t work, returning 404 error page), and my Google-Fu has yielded no results.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hi Aries,

I know you asked about phpBB forums, and I’m sorry I can’t answer that specific question. Have you considered using bbPress instead? It works with WordPress multisite, and integrates a bit more seamlessly than a separate installation of phpBB.

    Hope this helps!

    Yes.

    1) Make a folder called forum off example.com

    2) Edit the .htaccess in forum to force subdomain.example.com/forum

But you can’t have a separate one per subdomain… well. Maybe you could if you got REALLY clever with .htaccess.
