 * Hi, I have 2 sites on subdomains of the same domain. At [https://www.analyticsmania.com/post/subdomain-tracking-with-google-analytics-and-google-tag-manager/](https://www.analyticsmania.com/post/subdomain-tracking-with-google-analytics-and-google-tag-manager/)
   it says that cross-domain tracking is not required for subdomains of the same
   site in GA4, but at [https://www.monsterinsights.com/docs/faq/#:~:text=You%20do%20not%20need%20to,by%20following%20the%20steps%20here.](https://www.monsterinsights.com/docs/faq/#:~:text=You%20do%20not%20need%20to,by%20following%20the%20steps%20here.)
   it says that you do need to set this up – please can you confirm that this is
   required?

 * Hi [@pixelshrink](https://wordpress.org/support/users/pixelshrink/),
 * Thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry for any confusion.
 * The step should just be to “exclude your domain as a referral in Google Analytics”
   to avoid issues with self-referrals. For more details on how to edit the **Configure
   your domains** settings, you can view this guide instead: [https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/10071811](https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/10071811)
 * I’ve asked our team to ensure we update that doc to avoid future confusion. We
   appreciate you for bringing it to our attention!
 * Let me know if you have further questions.
 * Thank you.

 * Thanks, will look at that. Also, Monster Insights is installed on both subdomain
   sites, but for the second one (which has its own data stream which Monster Insights
   has set up), it says ‘Data collection isn’t active for your website.’ Are there
   any special installation steps for Monster Insights in such a case? Plus the
   reports in WP Admin are all for data from the other subdomain.

 * Hi [@pixelshrink](https://wordpress.org/support/users/pixelshrink/),
 * I’m so sorry for the delay here!
 * Once MonsterInsights is connected and authenticated, tracking should begin immediately.
   To start seeing data in reports, it can take up to 24 hours for the tracked data
   to be processed within Google Analytics. If you’re still encountering tracking
   issues, I’m happy to help take a closer look at your websites for you, if you
   don’t mind sharing the URLs. If there is no data collection happening, there
   could be something preventing tracking from working as expected.
 * Thank you!

 * Thanks, that’s great. Here are the details: password is your username minus the

 * Hi [@pixelshrink](https://wordpress.org/support/users/pixelshrink/),
 * Thank you for sharing the URLs.
 * I was able to take a look and see that your main site and blog site are using
   two different cookie solutions. I think this might be why the main site is tracking
   data, but the blog site isn’t (if I’m understanding this correctly).
 * Here’s what I’m seeing:
    - Your main site’s cookie plugin unblocks tracking once clicking **Accept All**
      [https://a.supportally.com/i/8FINKW](https://a.supportally.com/i/8FINKW)
    - The blog site’s cookie plugin requires an extra click to opt into the Analytics
      under the **Cookie Settings** [https://a.supportally.com/i/vt2Cq7](https://a.supportally.com/i/vt2Cq7)
 * By default, these plugins prevent tracking from happening until a site visitor
   consents. What is most likely happening, at least for the blog site, is your
   site visitors are just clicking on accept without specifically opting into Analytics
   tracking, or ignoring the consent banner altogether and therefore no tracking
   happens during their visit.
 * Out of curiosity, would you be able to try a different cookie plugin for the
   blog site, to help confirm the above or rule it out as a cause? Let me know how
   things go.
 * Thanks so much!
