I have enabled WordPress Multisite Network with subdomains. My main site is http://www.projectconnectonline.org which has a lot of theme customizations including widgets and pages. When I add a new site with a subdomain (i.e. testsite.projectconnectonline.org) the customizations do not reflect. I was under the impression that any changes I make to the themes would change for all of the sites in my network. Please help.

    Thank you!

  • Any actual html/css/php code changes to theme files in the “wp-content/themes/my-theme/” files will be applied on every site the my-theme is active.

Any “Dashboard->Appearance” changes and customizations (widgets/menus/pages etc) saved will only be applied on the sites those changes are made. Those tweaks are saved in the database and are unique to the site they are created.

Thanks David. Is there any way to make the same dashboard->appearance changes and customizations to the wp-content/themes/my-theme file? I thought that was the whole purpose of using multisite networking?

    Dashboard changes? No.

Customizations directly to the code files? Yes.

The purpose of multisite networking is to have multiple, separate, sites managed by one install of WP.

They have different admin sections for a reason 🙂 They’re different sites.
