    Hi,

I am trying to install multisite with subdomains on virtual server.
    BUT
My site_url is an ip address.

I do not want to direct my domain to the site yet ( its under development).

    How can I continue?

You either hook up the domain name now or you mess with your hosts file.

    Thanks,

So I mess with my hostfile:

    127.0.0.1 myfakedomain.com
    127.0.0.1 *.myfakedomain.com

What do I do with the IP in the DB?

    Sorry,

it should be with the real IP. isn’t it?

    my.real.elastic.ip my.fakedomain.com
    my.real.elastic.ip *.my.fakedomain.com

127.0.0.1 is your local IP, always. It’s the same as saying ‘localhost’

    So yes, use

    my.real.elastic.ip my.fakedomain.com
    my.real.elastic.ip *.my.fakedomain.com

and use the real domain in the db at the IP address.

it won;t work for visitors to the IP address, and it won;t interfere with the live domain. only you see the domain installed with that domain name at the new ip address.

And that means I only access the site locally…

    Thanks for both you.
