# Subdomain Local Development Platform

 * I’m trying to find the best environment to develop a multisite/buddypress website
   and was wondering if anyone had suggestions for using sub domains. Ideally it
   would be something that I could run off a usb flash drive. I’ve tried DesktopServer,
   but it doesn’t allow me to use it on a flash drive and I need to purchase the
   full version to utilize the multisite features.

 * You’d have to edit your local hosts files to redirect subdomains to your localhost
   version of WP.

 * That’s what I was afraid of. I’m going to see if I can do an install on [Portable Virtual Box](http://www.vbox.me/).
