• So, I’ve just installed multisite. I have created a new subdomain with the name I want to use, and the ‘My Sites’ dashboard shows the subdomain site as being there – however, it’s own dashboard doesn’t seem to be working.

My main site is http://www.manek.org.uk; my new subdomain is bfmb.manek.org.uk, but following that link will just take you to a ‘not found’ page, as will bfmb.manek.org.uk/wp-admin – why is this?!

The answer is found in understanding what it means when you get that kind of 404.

If the 404 looks like manek.org.uk then the issue is in Multisite. However if it’s a DNS error, where (for example) Chrome tells me it’s not found at all, then the answer is that you did not set up your DNS properly.

Notice how it’s all red Xs? You didn’t add wildcard subdomains to your server. 🙂

Hi, thank you! It looks like (after a quick web search) my web host doesn’t support ‘Wildcard Subdomains’. Is there any way around this?
