subdomain image urls

in WP.com sites, our site pics are like
http://oursite.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/mainframe.jpg?w=584
In WPMU they’re more like
http://origsite/stub/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2013/01
The origsite,stub,sites/2 parts are crappy since if we move hosts those will change. Is there a way to get rid of those?
