I had worked with wordpress for a while but right now I am totally lost creating a subdomain. I had created a subdomain through cpannel and specified on which directory should be created. the new directory only has the cgi-bin folder. I want the subdomain spanish.littlewhizzkid.com to have the spanish translation of the main site which is english, so I don´t want to install wordpress again on this directory but point the spanish site to this subdomain. Could you please tell me whether I need to set up some additional parameters. I had also direct the subdomain to the folder which has been created but without any success. * thanks in advance. I am using wpml plugging so within it i have the option to select the url of the localized version as folder or subdomain. If i select subdomain, even i had created it through cpannel, it tells me is not validated and if i type directly the subdomail there is only an error message page * I hope it makes sence my explanation. You may need to recreate the subdomain to accomplish this. * This assumes that your domain is registered through the same company that you are hosting with. If that is not the case you will need to go to the DNS zone editor at your registrar and create a new A record for the subdomain that points to the same IP as your current @ A record OR create a CNAME record for the subdomain pointing to the normal base domain name. * Also, depending on who your webhost/registrar is, what you are trying to do is _usually_ within the realm of their free phone support, so if my instructions aren’t easy to follow they should be able to help on everything that is hosting and not WordPress configuration. * Thread Starter [maldediego](https://wordpress.org/support/users/maldediego/) * (@maldediego) * [12 years, 8 months ago](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/subdomain-12/#post-4110257) * thanks a lot for your email. I did rpoint the subdomain to the root directoy where wordpress is installed and when i select on the plugging setup to choose a subdomain everything goes ok but typing the subdomain on the url only displaies the english version of the website. You have the DNS misconfigured on the subdomain. Instead of spanish.littlewhizzkid.com having its own A Record or CNAME it is a 301 redirect to littlewhizzkid.com. * You can use this site as a diagnostic: [http://www.internetofficer.com/seo-tool/redirect-check/](http://www.internetofficer.com/seo-tool/redirect-check/) * You need to go to GreenGeeks and remove the redirect then set an A record for spanish.littlewhizzkid.com pointing to IP address 184.154.90.58 for the plugin to work. * As I said before, you should be able to call their support, tell them that’s what you are trying to do and they should be able to assist you for free. * [greendemiurge](https://wordpress.org/support/users/greendemiurge/) * (@greendemiurge) * [12 years, 8 months ago](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/subdomain-12/#post-4110261) * To clarify, a redirect pushes the traffic from spanish.littlewhizzkid.com to littlewhizzkid.com, meaning you lose your subdomain.
