Support » Fixing WordPress » Subdirectory installation, Permalink URL not including the subdirectory

I support a WP Blog installed in the /wp/ directory of the website.

The Permalink URL’s it generates does not include the /wp/ directory level, thus Permalink URL’s 404.

I have made sure that the settings seem to be correct:
    WordPress address (URL) http://domain.org/wp
    Site address (URL) http://domain.org

Why is WP not correctly including the installation subdirectory into the Permalink URL’s it generates?

Many people want WordPress to power their site’s root…

WP does not power the root of the website. Drupal happens to. WordPress is locked in its own jail in the /wp/ directory.

Why then is WordPress coming up with invalid links?

If I manually add /wp/ to one of its URL’s the blog post page loads fine.

I would think this is a bug in z code.

If you have WP installed in /wp/, and you want it to run OUT of /wp, then this is wrong:

I have made sure that the settings seem to be correct:
    WordPress address (URL) http://domain.org/wp
    Site address (URL) http://domain.org

    They should BOTH be http://domain.org/wp

Not if it’s taking over the root domain, surely?

    They should BOTH be http://domain.org/wp

BINGO!!! Thank you, Ipstenu! Working properly now.

Yep 🙂 Reason is that Site URL does NOT mean ‘What’s the URL of your main site?’ but really ‘Where do you want WP to pretend to be from?’

If you wanted to, as esmi suggested, run in root while having WP in a subfolder, THEN what you did was correct. It’s so hard to make all that make sense from every perspective!
