Yes, you can.
No, it’s probably not okay because moving multisite is hard for rookies, and you sound relatively new.
Don’t use Multisite to make your fresh install UNLESS you’re planning to make the new install a network. If you’re just redesigning, then install WP in a subfolder as a normal, stand alone, install. Then do this: https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory#Using_a_pre-existing_subdirectory_install
Hi Ipstenu,
Yes, we already made the subfolder and install a new wordpress. And yes, we are making a new network which the subfolder is a fresh install of wordpress.
So its fine, the http://www.aarm-dental.com that already has a site and content wont be get affected if I install a multisite on a subdirectory…?
It won’t BREAK the separate site, if that’s what you’re asking. But I would not think it’s ‘okay’ if you plan to move the subdirectory Multisite later on because it’s not simple, and moving it AFTER you activate and use Multisite is not easy unless you’re patient and good in the database.
Hi Ipstenu,
Yes..Its a redesign so we will be in the future to moved it..Thanks
I wouldn’t do it as Multisite. That is, I would not install in a subfolder, make it a multisite, and do all the magic. You don’t sound like you’re ready to handle it.
I would install WP in a subdirectory, as a single WP instance, design it to be how I want the new site, then do this: https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory#Using_a_pre-existing_subdirectory_install
Once the new design is live, THEN activate Multisite.
Well yeah, we did talked about that..But our client want to see all of it..So that when moved all are in there…
Well then you get to read https://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#Moving_WordPress_Multisite and see if that’s something that makes sense to you.
You would be somewhat better off installing the site in a subdomain, versus a subfolder, and making multisite in beta.domain.com
Then it’s a lot easier to search for beta.domain.com and replace with domain.com
I see..Yeah I read that..and thanks..Im making a subdomain to make the multisite…Since, we are still starting so not much work has done..
Cheers
