Sub-directory Multisite install from domain sub-directory

Hi,

I want to setup a sub-directory based wordpress multisite install from a sub-directory of the domain.

E.g install wordpress in domain.com/subdir and setup blogs domain.com/blog1 domain.com/blog2

I’m not sure if this is possible and haven’t been able to find any definitive answers to this. Can anyone confirm if this can be done?

I know I can install wordpress into the web root of domain.com and achieve what I want but I can’t do this as domain.com is a website in it’s own right (i.e has it’s own index.php file for routing the website) with wordpress blogs as subfolders.

I have full access to the web server so can do any configuration necessary.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
