    Hi,

I have a website which serves as both a portfolio of my work and a blog. I have activated multisites because I essentially need two separate blogs. One where all the posts function as examples of my work, the other where they are actual blog entries. I need to separate the two because it was too confusing having a mixture of categories and posts in one blog for both work and blogging, when the two sets of content are actually quite different. My question is, is there anyway to add a site that has the url of mydomain/blog . I think that /blog is reserved for the main site but this is really causing me some grief. I've spent hours setting up multisite only to find I can't do what I need to.

    Thanks for any help.

  2. Yes, the blog virtual folder is 'saved' for the main blog.

    You get
    http://domain.com/
    http://domain.com/pagename
    http://domain.com/blog/postname

    If that makes sense :)

Now, you CAN change it but why not just use the main blog for the blog and make a subfolder site for work?

    Hi,

The site is primarily my portfolio, not my blog, so I don't the blog to be further up in the hierarchy if you see what I mean.

You can see my site now, which uses pages for the work section and posts for the blog. But I want to swap it to two blogs.

Can you tell me the way to change it so I can try it out?

    Thanks

Or alternatively, can you suggest a better way for what I'm trying to achieve. In a perfect world I would have one wordpress site, with the ability to have some posts go to my portfolio section, which would have urls like lukearcher.co.uk/piece-of-work, and other posts go to my blog i.e lukearcher.co.uk/blog/post.

I've experimented using using different categories and sub-categories but so far have found a suitable solution.

    Thanks

  6. If you have two blogs in this setup, you'll get

    lukearcher.co.uk/ main site
    lukearcher.co.uk/blog/ and archives

    lukearcher.co.uk/yourportfoliosite
    lukearcher.co.uk/yourportfoliosite/each-piece/

Yeah, but the trouble is that the home page lukearcher.co.uk needs to be the loop from the portfolio site. I suppose I could redirect lukearcher.co.uk to lukearcher.co.uk/work. But it doesn't satisfy the perfectionist in me.

  8. Yeah, but the trouble is that the home page lukearcher.co.uk needs to be the loop from the portfolio site.

What do you mean 'be in the loop'? You mean show posts from the portfolio?

There are a few ways to do that :) The main page of lukearcher.co.uk/ can use a static front page, where-upon you've coded up calls to pull in recent posts, for example :)

Ok, well it sounds like that's what I need to do then. Can you point me in the direction of instructions of how to do that?

    Thanks

  10. Via plugins:
This weirdly named plugin WordPress MU Sitewide Tags Pages will agregate all your posts from ALL your sites into either your main site or a sub site.

If you choose the subsite option, then I would suggest using something like RA's Featured Posts and pick and choose what posts you want on the front page.

Me? I use RSS, coded into a page template for my front page using Perishable Press's Directions.
