I’m working with the maker plugin and I’m trying to create a shortcode that can be added to existing elements on the page. For example, if there is a link in the page, or an image. The user could select the link or image and add the shortcode tags around it. However, when you try to insert a shortcode on a link only the link text is pulled in for the content. On an image nothing is pulled in for the content.
After doing some testing it appears this happens with all of the shortcodes, for example if I have existing content on the page that includes several paragraphs and a list, if I select this content and try to insert an accordion or some other type of content shortcode around it then all the html is cleared and I end up with just the plain text left.
Is there any way to preserve the existing markup of the selected content when adding a shortcode? I love the plugin, but clearing the formatting can be rather frustrating if someone has spent time making the content look just so and then to have all their work undone.
