Styling the widget?

  • I have the ‘Upcoming Events’ in the sidebar on one of my websites, but it was too wide. My solution was to widen the width of the sidebar and it looks fine.

    I wish I could do that, but I can’t. So frustrating that I cannot find the css file for the widget anywhere in the plugin files!

    In my theme style.css file, I found:

    .art-content-layout .art-sidebar1
       width: 250px;

    and changed it to

    /* begin LayoutCell, sidebar1 */
    .art-content-layout .art-sidebar1
    /* original width 250px changed on 25 Dec 2012 */
       width: 350px;
    /* end LayoutCell, sidebar1 */

    You should find something like this in you theme stylesheet.

    Note my comment line /* original width 250px changed on 25 Dec 2012 */. I always include a comment when making a change, just so that I can unwind it if necessary.

    I should add that if you are not comfortable changing the stylesheet, copy the original to a text file on your computer before doing anything else, just in case you screw it up.

    Thanks but that’s not what I meant. I know *how* to change the width of my sidebars in my theme, I just can’t do it because it woudl screw everything else up.

    The strange thing is that when I did go in and test what would happen when I widened the sidebar, the widget itself widened along with it! What’s going on here is the widget is set to fill the width of the container it is in (my sidebar). I need to set the widget to have a right and left margin of 15px each, or else set the width of the widget itself to be 180 and centered.

    But I can’t find the css file for the widget! 🙁

    Thanks again for trying to help me. I wish the author would chime in here. 🙂
