 * I have attempted to download and then upload 1.5 themes to WordPress. Before
I upload I go to wp-content and create a new folder/directory named the same
as the theme in the wp-content/theme directory. I then transfer the files to
the server. According to filezilla the upload is a successful. I then go to WordPress
   >Presentations> and the theme is listed as a “Broken Theme” listing the reason
as “the stylesheet is missing” even though the file style.css is listed as being
on the server i.e. wp-content>presentation>theme. I then place the new theme
in a directory above outside wp-content/themes between themes and plugins and
the theme is displayed as an available theme. Am I wrong or shouldn’t the theme
actually go in the wp-content/theme directory?

 * They all should be under the /themes/ directory in their own directory.
    Which
   theme is not “behaving” properly?
 * Edit. Lots of good info (found by searching for “missing stylesheet”) here: [http://wordpress.org/support/topic/40601](http://wordpress.org/support/topic/40601)

 * Over the past few months I have attempted to sample several different themes.
At various times when I have installed a new theme, I would get an error message
on the themes page. This error message stated that the stylesheet is missing.
Looking on the wordpress support page, I couldn’t find any help in solving this
problem. So for the most part I just deleted the theme and moved on to another.
However, after finding the current theme I am using I again had the same problem.
This time however, I discovered what is going on.
 * First when I downloaded the theme and unzipped it, the theme would be in the
folder it was named. Yet after uploading the theme using an ftp client I discoverd
that the files in the folder would break apart for some reason. Instead of all
of the files staying within the themes folder certain folders like images and
javascript would find thereselves located outside of the main folder. This is
where the problem lay. I don’t know why the folders would break apart after being
uploaded by they did. I found that if I created a new folder and moved all of
the existing folders into the new one, the theme would work properly.
