Hi. I know a little html & css but not enough to figure out exactly what to do. I’ve read pages of support trying to come across something to help but..
    I upload 2 new themes in wp-content/theme/–
In presentation is shows they are uploaded but them says stylesheet is missing. How do I fix a broken theme?

    Thanks

Now I downloaded one of the wordpress featured themes and it says the same thing. I also checked in my theme files and there is a style.css???
    Please Help!

Only thing I can think of is to make sure you have a “top-level” folder for each theme, which includes the images folder and style.css plus the various .php files.

Um. And you’re not redirecting from one domain to somewhere else, right?

You could give a link, maybe?

I do have a folder for each theme under wp-content/themes.
No redirects. Uploaded in my cpanel. I did upload the zip file and then extracted them because when I tried uploading the file that had been already extracted, it would say not correct file name. I used the file name given to the .zip.???
    I tried retrospotive theme & fresh-bananas.

    Thanks

Well, all I’m getting there right now is the default in aqua. How did it not give the correct file name if you uploaded the files direct? I’ve personally never had any luck unzipping things on my host server (due I think to something in their setup) – YMMV.

Yeap it’s set on default theme right now. After unzipping it, the file name is blank. I type in the file name just how they have it. I don’t add the .zip. It actually keeps opening until I’m down to the actually individual files like style.css, header.php, etc.
Do I have to upload each and every file in the one theme file?
    I have not a clue?

Not in one theme “file” – but in one theme folder. Every theme has to have its own folder with all the files: archive.php, footer.php, header.php, index.php,…etc, style.css.

Like what moshu said, when you download a theme, say theme: bullshit, you’d upload that whole folder within the wp-content/themes/bullshit.

Upload all images in binary..and all text files in ASCII mode. So it would be:

    wp-content/themes/bullshit theme name

    and the files within it.

    To be like:

    wp-content/themes/bullshit
    img/
    all other files….

I had to upload each thing like style.css, header.php each one at a time. It wouldn’t upload the whole file fresh-bananas. I just got it to work.
Even though it showed up as extracted in cpanel and upload in wordpress something wasn’t quite right. Now I know what to do. Thanks for your time. Very much appreciated.

So, is everything fine now? =) Or not yet..? Just drop another reply either way… lol. =)

    Hi,
    I’m having a similar problem:

I’ve used the Jakarta theme on several blogs before with no problem at all.

Today I start a new blog and again, wanted to use the Jakarta theme. Did all the necessary things to get it available to the new blog, but when I open the control panel for the blog and go to edit the theme, it tells me that the style sheet is missing.

    If you go to:

    http://glenmentgen.com/jakarta theme.bmp
(may take a little while to load as its 700kb, sorry)

you will see the theme completely installed where I wanted it and that the style sheet is there.

    Please advise.

I see that the url link didn’t come out as usable, so I have changed the name of the .bmp file and now this link should be okay:

    http://glenmentgen.com/jakarta_theme.bmp

    Hi,
I finally figured it out… the theme info got saved one subdirectory deeper than it should have…

Pilot error during the ftp operation.
