Support » Plugin: Responsive Menu » Struggled to get shortcode to work

  • I spent as much time as I wanted to allow testing to see what I could do with the free version before deciding to use it, buy it, etc. However, I was never able to get the shortcode to work using OceanWP theme and Elementor builder. I have a custom header (library item) built using Elementor and no matter what I tried, the shortcode never inserted the menu item. The header/footer files are very standard for theming WP and include the associated calls (wp_head, etc.). I toggled the shortcode on/off a number of times. There aren’t many plugins to deactivate for conflict testing (3 others). So I must assume it is the theme/builder combo?

I don’t like trashing in reviews, especially for products with a significant reputation, so I’m giving it 3 stars just because it isn’t working for my specific circumstance.

    Hey there,

Unfortunately I didn’t see any support requests regarding the shortcode in the forum, can you link me to it so I can help you out as I usually respond to every request within hours.

In addition, did you read through the knowledgebase article about the shortcode or what exactly did you try to get the shortcode working so I can advise?

    https://responsive.menu/knowledgebase/using-the-shortcode/

It’s likely an easy solution so if you let me know I can probably get you on the right track in a few seconds.

    Please let me know

    Peter

I very much appreciate a quick response. It isn’t that common in the plugin community!

Yes, I did read everything I could find in the knowledge base. That is why I mentioned the typical setup for headers/footers firing off the code to add scripts in each. I even tried the shortcode in a <body> element. And I toggled the function off and on from the console a few times.

I will follow up with a support posting if that is the correct channel to continue this. It may be a day or so as I’m busy with other matters on that build.

I forgot to mention that I am testing it all on localhost, but I will likely move it to a live subdomain for testing shortly. If that matters at all.

    Hey,

I always respond and solve any posts as I have experienced the poor support from some plugins you mention.

If you can open a support request and get it on a URL I can look at then we’ll get it working for you.

How did you insert the shortcode exactly and it should go inside the body, anywhere outside the body will create invalid HTML.

I look forward to helping out!

    Hey there,

    Any update on this?

At the moment the site I chose to experiment with is now out of staging and live. I was able to do enough with the theme menu design capabilities and a few custom styles. However, I still like the potential of your plugin to make it easier for anyone without styling capabilities to come behind me and make changes, etc.

If I build a blank page and simply place your shortcode in a container on the page, will it render? I don’t know if there would be any nav-menu conflict by default. I won’t try to replace a header/nav menu just to test how things work on the page down in the body.

If that should work, then I will set up such a page. Should I still not find the shortcode to work, I can send that page link.

    Hey there,

You will need to activate the shortcode from the admin area but yes just placing it anywhere on the page should make it just work.

Let me know how you get on.
