 * I want to use the wordpress software as a news section for my site so that people
   can update whats going on (duh, news.)
 * So I am wondering the best way to ‘strip’ WP down to simply the articles/comments
   part of the program.

   Just make a custom role for anyone you’d like to be able to update the news section.
