    I’m seeing strange page titles listed in Google analytics and I’m not really sure what’s causing it. Heres an example of a page title I’m seeing

    /refirme-skin-tightening/?keyphrase=skin+tightening&creativeId=12381938762&provider=google&matchType=p&c=1617195639&bc=1617195646

    the page title should be this

    /refirme-skin-tightening/

    anybody know what might be causing this to happen? Any possible leads would be appreciated, i’ve got to get this sorted out. Thanks in advance

    This is a curious one, but from looking at the query string parameter items, it would suggest some sort of advertising campaign?

    I only state this b/c of the “creativeId”, “provider”, “keyphrase” and “matchType” elements.

    Keyphrase sounds like keyword searching, creative tends to be used in advertising campaigns as the graphics, provider is pretty self explanitory, and the matchType being equal to ‘p’ sounds like it’s doing “phrase matching” to display a certain set of ads whenver someone does a search that includes (in this case) “skin tightening” somewhere within it.

    This is just a suggestion, but if you are doing any advertising campaigns you may want to look to see if they append any query strings to their ads.

    The other option is to add each of these query string parameters to the filter of Google Analytics so it won’t report them, just the root page visited (/refirme-skin-tightening in this case).

    When in the settings of a property in Google Analytics, use the ‘Profile Settings’ tab to add (one per line) the query string parameters you want Google Analytics to ignore in it’s reporting.

    Hope that helps,
    Chris

    Definitely helped, thanks Chris I really appreciate the advice.

    The client does some ppc but that traffic is supposed to get sent to a separate site, I suspected that may be the issue but wasn’t quite sure.

    One thing, and i’m not sure if this answers that question, but all the traffic with that type of suffix is direct? Would that mean the ppc campaign is the culprit.

    @david

    If that traffic is direct it’s still possibly it’s a PPC campaign. Some of those services use direct referral, others use methods of scripting that would show this as a direct visit instead of containing a referral.

    I’m not sure if there’s an exact answer to your question from an outside perspective but I hope you can at least track down your issue with some of this information.
