 * I’m not sure if this has been discussed, but I just installed the DG plugin and
   it worked great…at first. The problem occurred after I had placed my files initially.
   The icons worked for each file, but at one point I decided to move them around
   so I deleted what I had. When I re-inserted the files (in the post) the icons
   were not visible, only the hyperlink to the pdf file. I found out if I were to
   upload a brand new PDF and insert it into the post the icon would display, but
   re-inserting a file that had already been placed before would cause the missing
   icon. SIDENOTE: settings are default.
 * Thanks.

 * Hi eustis,
 * Can you paste the exact text you are using for your shortcode (ie: [dg …]).
 * Also, you say that you “inserted the files.” There should be no inserting with
   Document Gallery. If you insert a non-image attachment (rather than using the
   Document Gallery shortcode), you’ll get just a plain text link to the file (no
   icon).

   Thanks! 🙂

 * Dan,
 * The process:
 * add the [dg] shortcode by typing [dg]
 * add media > select pdf file/s > insert into page
 * displays only text links.
 * What am I doing wrong?

 * Eustis,
 * There is no inserting of attachments. The shortcode on it’s own is all that you
   want.
 * The easiest solution is to simply load the attachments you want to display directly
   to the post/page that you want your Document Gallery in. Doing this, the icons
   will show up wherever you include [dg] tag. If you want more advanced functionality,
   take a look at the Installation tab.

 * I’m going to mark this issue as resolved for now, but please let me know if you
   are unable to track down the issue.

 * Don’t you load the attachment by clicking on “add media” and selecting the file?
   To reiterate, when I upload a file (new to the site) just like you did in the
   video, the plugin works like a charm.
 * However, if for some reason I need to place that same file (which is now in the
   media library) on another page, following the same procedure as before, the icon
   does not display, just the text link.

 * Eustis,
 * The uploading following clicking the “add media” button on the target page is
   how DG knows to include those documents in the gallery in the simplest usages.“
   Inserting” has absolutely no baring on what DG does and will result in default
   WordPress behavior, in this case plain text links in the page.
 * If you wish to include an attachment in a gallery besides the page where it was
   uploaded, you will need to use a combination of “localpost=false” plus other
   attributes to retrieve the attachments you wish to include or explicitly include
   individual documents with the “ids” attribute. You can find documentation for
   both of these approaches on the installation page.
 * Please let me know if you have any further questions 🙂
