We Have Version 3.2.5 on WordPress 5.5.1

We are having a problem with Yoast not showing the entire Category Hierarchy or showing Uncategorized, when Uncategorized is not selected, and the post pages do have selected categories.
Home » Uncategorized » TREND ARTICLES » EVERY DOG HAS HIS DAY
    Should read:
Home » TREND ARTICLES » Lifestyle Trends » EVERY DOG HAS HIS DAY

It isn’t a regular pattern that I can figure out only certain pages don’t work correctly.

These Archives are in Elementor, but you will see have used both the Elementor Yoast breadcrumbs and the Yoast breadcrumbs short code with the same result. Elementor says it its Yoast’s issue. smh

The link I shared Trend Articles / Design and Packaging Trends / EDIBLE STRAWS – CREATIVE SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING – the word oysters is in the main category position. That word is not on the page, it is not in any part of the Yoast configuration of the page – it has appeared and I have no clue why.

    Help?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi Moira,

Quick question: can you let us know what is at version 3.2.5? It looks like you’re running the latest version of Yoast SEO (14.9). Is that correct?

We took a look at the example post and found that the breadcrumbs include the “oyster” post tag in the path instead of the post categories assigned to it (Design & Packaging Trends and TREND ARTICLES).

Can you go to SEO > Search Appearance > Breadcrumbs and let us know what setting you have under “Taxonomy to show in breadcrumbs” for Posts? Is “Category” selected?

    Yoast is at 3.2.5

Posts (post) is set to Category

    Hi @moira-ashleigh,

Thanks for clearing that up! Unfortunately, we’re not able to offer support Yoast SEO version 3.2.5 since that is more than a few major versions out-of-date and there have been many updates and fixes.

We recommend updating to the latest version which is 14.9 since that may solve the problem with the breadcrumbs. We have the steps to update available here: How can I update my (free) plugin?.

If you’re not sure if the latest version will be compatible with your site, you can test this update on a staging site or you can make a full backup of your database and files before updating. Your hosting provider may be able to help.

You are absolutely right Yoast is at Version 14.9 – I must have mis-read something – strange. But we still have the problem and every plugin and theme is up to date

I accidentally read the Yoast Duplicate Post plugin which was 3.2.5 but is now 3.2.6 – so sorry

    Hi,

Thanks for confirming that you meant Yoast Duplicate Post v3.2.6 and that you are using Yoast SEO for WordPress v14.9.

Just to clarify, we checked on the page source of http://development.trendincite.com/edible-straws-creative-sustainable-packaging/ and it looks like the breadcrumbs are coming from Elementor Breadcrumb Widget in line 286 of the code — https://pasteboard.co/JrCbYEV.png

Could you please provide us with more information on how you’ve implemented your breadcrumbs? Is there a module in Elementor for this?

We do know you can implement the Yoast SEO for WordPress breadcrumbs by following the steps here — https://yoast.com/help/implement-wordpress-seo-breadcrumbs/

If you look on the single post pages you will see two sets of Breadcrumbs 🙂

One is the Elementor Yoast breadcrumbs tool in the Elementor single post template.

The other is a straight short Yoast code added to the Elementor single post template.

They both return the exactly same thing. :\

We contacted Elementor first and they said they sai:

    Hi,

Thank you for contacting us and our apologies for the delayed response. We have been experiencing a higher than usual volume of tickets, whereby delivering answers has been taking us some more time. We know how important it is for you to have your site up and running and would like to offer you a sincere apology on behalf of all Elementor’s team if we have not been fast enough.

Basically the Breadcrumb is controlled by YOAST and not us. But to confirm you can simply use their provided shortcode on the archive template in a Shortcode widget and see the output. It should be the same as the elementor widget and if you need to change something / feel it’s a bug you need to report the issue to them or check their guide for changes.

    Hi @moira-ashleigh,

We tested the breadcrumb shortcut code [wpseo_breadcrumb] on a page using Elementor’s shortcode widget and using the breadcrumb shortcode without Elementor on a category page, but we were not able to reproduce the problem you’re seeing.

Just to test whether this is a bug or something specific to your site, we’d like you to test whether this still happens if you deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Nineteen

We recommend doing this on a staging site or using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin to test on a live site.

We have a step-by-step guide here: How to check for plugin conflicts.

Can you let us know the results?

I turned off all the plugins except Yoast and Elementor the problem did not go away.
Therefore it is either Yoast or Elementor – and all of the other Yoast breadcrumbs are working just fine throughout the website in Elementor, until we get to the second level of Category – which is when Uncategorized and oyster show up.

    Hi,

For this post http://development.trendincite.com/edible-straws-creative-sustainable-packaging/, could you edit this post and let us know what you’ve set as the primary category?

We’re also not sure why the output from the Elementor yoast breadcrumbs tool and the shortcode itself is showing the ‘oyster’ tag as the breadcrumb path instead of the stated category.

Would it be possible for you to try and download the Yoast Test Helper plugin and reset the indexables and see if this might resolve the issue? Once you are able to download and install the plugin, please go to your WP admin dashboard > Tools (sidebar) > Yoast Test > Yoast SEO > Reset Indexables tables & migrations. Then please go to your WP admin dashboard > SEO (sidebar) > Tools > and try to rerun the Indexables. Could you check if this fixes the issue with the breadcrumb path for that post?

    Thread Starter Moira Ashleigh

    (@moira-ashleigh)

If you had looked further down the page the primary and secondary categories are showing in the author box. At this point we are ripping the Yoast Breadcrumbs out – they just don’t work in these posts. I may return to this if the client wants it after the launch when we have a new staging site.
Thanks but this is not resolved.
