Support » Fixing WordPress » Strange Incoming Link Activity….HELP Please Explain

  • In the past couple of days, I have been receiving dozens of Incoming Links under the Activity section on my Dashboard. I have had the blog up and running for over three years now, and would usually get a couple of incoming links per month. Now they are coming in droves.

The links all seem to link back to: with random numbers and letters here (this last bit is a description not part of the url

The links are to what appear to be genuine posts, but have nothing to do with the topic of my blog. The topics run the gamut from porn to twitter, to lindsay lohan, etc.

Also on the posts, I see no place where there is a link to my blog

What is causing this and should I be concerned???

    HELP! Thanks

  • I am having the same issue.
    Wordpress v. 2.2.3 (I know, it’s old, but I like it!)

I am concerned that someone (or some machine) out there is spamming articles on my behalf… don’t want to be showing up as spam randomly around the internet! ??

any ideas about how to stop this would be much appreciated.

This is controlled on the Dashboard, Incoming Links box. Click on the Configure link, and you get a box to enter an rss feed. To get the correct feed for your blog, go to and enter the website address of your site in the search box. This gives you a search page with a list of the sites that link to your site. Scroll down to the bottom, and click on the link that says Subscribe to a blog search feed for (your site). Click on that link. Copy the url for the resulting page, and paste that into the box in the configure page for the incoming links feature on your dashboard. Then click submit. The incoming links page should then populate with the most recent links to your site.
