Strange characters on main site after Multisite setup

    Apologies if this has been covered before. I searched a long time for someone having a similar problem, and found nothing.

    I finally got a Multisite network up and running, and it seemed like everything was working fine. But then I went to our main site and found that some of the characters in the text were being converted into weird characters–for example, all apostrophes are changed to ’.

    The problem went away after I restored my backup wp-config, so the issue was obviously being caused by the lines I added to wp-config during the setup process.

    Is anyone aware of this problem or what might be causing it? Or is there a simple solution?

    Maybe you did some damage in the WP-config.php file on the line that states the charset or maybe the language file?

    /** Database Charset to use in creating database tables. */
    define(‘DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8’);

    * WordPress Localized Language, defaults to English.
    define (‘WPLANG’, ‘da_DK’);
