Support » Fixing WordPress » Strange caching behaviour in admin backend

  • Resolved crawlinson

No matter what page I am on in the backend, any settings I change are not reflected until I force refresh the page, despite the update being accepted.

    For example:

    – If I update a theme/plugin it still stays it’s out of date until I force refresh, same for plugin update/activation.
    – If I change anything in the setting, the settings are updated but the admin view is not updated until I force refresh.

I can confirm that the settings are being updated as I can see the change on the front end and if I press ‘update’ again it displays an error because it’s already up to date.

This is a completely fresh installation of the latest WordPress with no additional plugins installed (I first noticed the issue when updating the default Twenty Twenty WordPress theme).

Is anyone else having this issue or know how to resolve it?

UPDATE: Even revisiting my theme page an hour later (despite force refreshing earlier) displays Twenty Twenty as being the active theme (and requiring an update). If I force refresh (again), it updates.

What caching plugin are you using?

    Hi @macmanx,

I don’t have any caching plugin installed and was using a fresh install, however, I’ve found that Goggle Chrome is the culprit! I realised this morning that Firefox didn’t have the same issue so restarted Chrome and the problem was gone.

Strange huh? Maybe one of my browser extensions was playing up.

Thanks for trying to help though 🙂
