Strange behavior “Email confirmation to user” – html

I am trying to setup an html comfirmation email to user.
After saving I see that some extra slashes are added to my html, like this:<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC \\\”-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional //EN\\\” \\\”http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd\\\”><html xmlns=\\\”http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml\\\” xmlns:v=\\\”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml\\\” xmlns:o=\\\”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office\\\”><head>
How to get rid of this?
