• This isn’t a site-breaking emergency, just a couple of annoying bugs, but I figured it would help you to know.

For context: I have an installation of Webcomic with 3 separate comics. One has a bunch of storylines where no thumbnails were attached. Another has 10 storylines, and all the attached thumbnails were transferred fine. So far, so good.

The biggest comic has 69 storylines — including 8 top-level categories for organization purposes (none of which had thumbnails) and 61 actual storylines with comics in them (all 61 of which had thumbnails). Only the first 12 of these came through.

(They’re numbered, which means the first 12 alphabetically were also the first 12 in the manual sorting order. About 42 storylines also had text descriptions, and those appear to have come through for everything, at least the random subset I checked.)

So that’s Bug #1, the missing images. I’m holding off on re-adding them in case it’ll help you troubleshoot. (I kinda figure I’ll end up needing to re-add them by hand.)

Bug #2 is that, on the auto-generated Webcomic Archive page for these storylines, anything without a thumbnail has the text “%thumbnail” stuck under the name.

Bug #3 is that they’re displaying on that page in an apparently random order. It should have the by-year categories first, then the Sunday category, then the miscellaneous extras. (That’s the order on the Storyline Sorting page. I double-checked.)

Instead it has the Sunday category first, then an extra, then the 2003 category, then two more extras, then the 2004 category, and so on. Everything that starts with a number is in numerical order, but everything that starts with a letter is scattered all over the place. For the record, it’s not the order I created them, or the order in which they were most-recently added to.

That’s everything I’ve spotted so far! Hope it’s not too hard to fix.

Thanks for the reports, @sailorptah, and apologies for the trouble. Can you setup an admin account for me on your site? I think I might need to poke around a bit to figure out exactly what’s going on.

Can do. What email should I use?

    help@mgsisk.com should work!

Sent! Let me know if you need any more info.

One more thing — I have an auto-generated Archive page for characters (it’s not in any menus, it’s just for my own reference) that used to display alphabetically, and now it’s displaying in the order the tags were created. Which is actually more useful for my purposes! So it would be cool if that became a deliberate settable option, instead of another upgrade hiccup.

Thanks @sailorptah! I got the info and logged in… but I get a 403 (access forbidden error) whenever I try to get to the admin dashboard. Any ideas?

Ah, right, that was a security setting I had on, since normally no IP address but mine should need to access those pages. I disabled the block — you should be able to get there now.

(Sorry this is late, I didn’t get the email about the reply!)

I also updated Webcomic to 5.0.4 in the meantime. Doesn’t look like that changed anything (for better or worse).

Thanks @sailorptah! I think I got most of these:

#1 must be a Compat component bug I’ll need to look into, but I’ve fixed the term images for your site, at least.

#2 is definitely a bug of some kind… I’ll need to look into this one to get it fixed properly.

#3 is more of an Inkblot 4 bug; I “fixed” this by using the new [webcomic_storylines_list] shortcode to do your archive page instead of Inkblot 4’s archive template. Should be good now (except for the random %thumbnail‘s).

I believe what you’re seeing on the character list page is actually the default behavior when no orderby argument is specified, so this is actually standard behavior. Older versions of Webcomic may have forced a specific orderby argument by default, which is why it never actually happened.

Even more helpful than I expected, thank you!

No problem! The %thumbnail fix will show up in Webcomic 5.0.5, but I’ve already added it to your site, so that one should be fixed as well.

Webcomic 5.0.5 includes a general fix for the %thumbnail issue.
