    Hi,

I’m working with your woocommerce and storefront theme.

This morning I updated the theme to 2.3.0.

Yesterday my pingdom load time was 651ms. After the update a whopping 4.93s!

The watterfall showed that it was due to this file: fontawesome-webfont.woff2?v=4.7.0.

I am trying to revert back to version 2.2.8. But eventually I would have to update.

    Could you please help?

    Kind Regards

    Hi there!

The support request is better asked in the Storefront support forums over at https://wordpress.org/support/theme/storefront 🙂

With that said, I’m happy to provide a few suggestions – have you tried enabling caching on your website? I’m specifically referring to settings an expires header? This will effectively mean that the load time for that font will be significantly reduced on subsequent visits to your site as the file will be present in the browser cache.

Ah, thank you for your very quick answer! Should I also submit a ticket there?

And yes, I’ve had wp-rocket installed for years. No change in that. Also, the cache was already preloaded. Checked pingdom multiple times for the same url. However, I do not know specifically about the expires header. But nothing changed between yesterday and today, except the theme update. I assumed it was because the webfont, because that is the longest loading file…

That’s okay for now – just keep it in mind for future reference 🙂

I’m not intimately familiar with WP Rocket although you’ll be looking for a setting related to the Expires Header (there’s also some great tutorials online on how to add one manually).

The ?v=4.7.0. at the end of the file can also trip up some caching plugins in that it’s excluded from being cached. I’ve seen instances where caching plugins sometimes strip version numbers entirely because of that.

Ok, now I know it has something to do with the theme update.

I reverted back to 2.2.8. All is well now. With the caching active, around 700ms again.

I updated to 2.3.0., preloaded the cache again. Back to 4.9s cached.

Reverted back to 2.2.8 and once again, back to 700ms.

There are no changes made in the caching plugin. So there must be something in the update that changes.

Right now I am on 2.2.8. Maybe you can check for yourself in pingdom? After that I can update the theme again to 2.3.0 and maybe you could check again?

    UPDATE:
I disabled wp-Rocket and enabled Breeze caching.

I could update to 2.3.0 without caching issues. Allthough, site speed still went down. For now I will keep on 2.2.8 until there is more info on what is going on…

    Hey https://wordpress.org/support/users/riaanknoetze/

Another update. I’m back to WP-Rocket and storefront 2.2.8. as there seem to be some more problems with storefront. I didn’t notice yesterday initially.

I make use of shortcodes ultimed. On for instance my frontpage, I use that to make nice bullet-points. See https://www.vgpjewelry.nl

However, in storefront 2.3.0 they are not shown. First I thought it might be either breeze or wp-rocket. But the problems stayed after deactivating all cashing.

I reverted back to 2.2.8 and the problem was solved.

For now I will be staying on 2.2.8. Do you have any idea when the issues with 2.3.0 might be fixed? Is that a matter of days, weeks or months?

    Kind regards.

    Hi @johson,

Your site https://www.vgpjewelry.nl/ is not loading for me right now so I can’t see the bullet points you are talking about.

However, in storefront 2.3.0 they are not shown. First I thought it might be either breeze or wp-rocket. But the problems stayed after deactivating all cashing.

What I would suggest is – can you make a new site with Storefront 2.3.0 where we can see the issue so we can see what might be causing the font issue? That way we might be able to diagnose what could be going on.

    Thanks!
