Stops working after years without problems

Whatever they did to their code base, it isnt working on both local and production site. The support is not really helpful (just random guesses).
Too bad, it was the number one replacement plugin but there are alternatives now which work without any problems.

@phloo – hello and thank you for taking the time to leave a review!
I’ve discussed with my colleagues and we couldn’t find any ticket from you.
Maybe you could show the message you’re referring to when writing “The support is not really helpful (just random guesses)”?Developing a plugin and supporting a free plugin takes a lot of time, effort and money.
Also, due to the nature of WP (so many hosting options, plugins, themes and so on) it is impossible sometimes to replicate the conditions that caused a plugin that works well on hundreds of thousands of websites. Most of the times, our plugin users take the time to contact us when something doesn’t work and we assist them all the time as you can see here:
https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/enable-media-replace/
Just leaving a bad review doesn’t help us figure out what could be the problem and it surely doesn’t help others that could have benefited from having a fix…It is also disheartening to observe that you didn’t take the time to leave a positive review after using our plugin but you found the time leave a negative review 🙁
A) You refer to a ticket but should know that wordpress.org has a support section for each plugin. Thats what I was refering too. If you prefer to work on tickets, then mention it in the support thread here
B) I know it takes a lot of time – nobody said something different. And I reported a problem, gave you all requested infos about setup, checking with default theme, plugins, etc. And after all you write: did you try to re-install it. wow
C) It wouldnt change anything if I had left a positive review before because I would update it to the same rating as long as the plugin is not usable. As stated I was able to use it for a very long time and didnt change the setup. And before reviewing I reported the bug and tried to get it fixed with you but was left with questions for web beginners.- This reply was modified 8 months, 1 week ago by phloo.
@phloo – can you point me to the URL where you asked your question, here on wordpress.org?
Thank you.
As I explained, it is hard to debug something one cannot reproduce. I know it can be hard to understand this as a non-programmer but that’s how it is.I see my colleague suggested you to install an older version – that standard procedure when trying to figure out the source of a problem.
If a previous version of the plugin that worked stopped working then it is something in your website environment that changed.
I don’t see in your message anything about this.2024: you suggest to install an older versions of a plugin. Security should always be the number one subject: so I will look for alternative products instead of going back in time. Plus, I already told you, that in the past the plugin used to work – but the current one not. If you want to debug, then you dont do it with older versions.
Then you call me a non-programmer and in the thread I mention multiple times I work with a local development and a production site. Wow, just wow. I am a web developer for 20 years.PS: its a new default wordpress installation with default theme and all plugins disabled but hey, what do I know as a non programmer.
