 * What exactly do you mean by “a file”? At most, WordPress itself will show you
updates in the admin panel if any are pending. No one is going to give you a
   single file to update anything.

 * Not that kind of file. When I logged into my dashboard, WordPress said it was
going up update a file, then my dashboard and website went down, and when it
came back, classic changed, as did the look of most of my dashboard

 * WordPress doesn’t display a message indicating that a file is being updated.
WordPress updates itself, as well as themes, plugins, and language files, but
these always come in packages—not as individual files. So I’m still not sure
exactly which message you’re referring to. It might be coming from a plugin you’re
using that’s notifying you of a necessary update for itself. Without knowing
exactly what happened here, it’s hard for me to assess what’s going on in your
   project.
 * Feel free to share a screenshot of what you’re seeing. That might make it easier
to understand what you’re referring to. See: [https://wordpress.org/support/forum-user-guide/block-editor/#adding-screenshots](https://wordpress.org/support/forum-user-guide/block-editor/#adding-screenshots)

 * it’s not what WordPress did with the update that I’m reaching out to you about,
but how classic has changed as a result, and how it doesn’t work as well. Instead
of writing in classic much like you do in these paragraph boxes in the form,
you had to click edit for a pop out box to type everything since this WordPress
forced update, which means you have to save changes before you leave classic.
It also doesn’t displaying this accurately anymore. So images you saved as centred,
can show as left aligned in the dashboard in classic, but show as being centred
   on the front end

 * Your screenshots show that you’re using the [Classic Block](https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/classic-block/)
in the Block Editor. This has absolutely nothing to do with _Classic Widgets_,
as they serve completely different functions – and you’re asking your question
in the wrong forum . When the plugin _Classsic Widgets_ is activated and you’re
using a classic theme, you manage Classic Widgets under Appearance > Widgets.
They are not used in the Block Editor.
 * The Classic Block interface, which is visible in your screenshots, was updated
in one of the recent updates from the Gutenberg team; I believe the popup shown
in your screenshot was introduced with WordPress 6.9. This was done in preparation
for the change to the Block Editor interface that came in version 7.0. It was
necessary to ensure that the Classic Editor could still be used within the Classic
   Block in this new version.
 * So you’ve ended up in the wrong support forum with your issue, which is why I
was confused by your questions. Now that I understand it better, I’d recommend
that you contact the Gutenberg team with your concern: [https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues](https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues)
