Same problem here and it seems that Updraft Plus is not working for free and paid users. I can’t get it working with Google Drive and all of my backups for the day are failed.
Let’s hope that they fix it soon.

To help us work out the cause of your problem, can you please send us a copy of the backup log?
You can find this log in the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory of your site via FTP.
You can send the log file as an attachment or copy the contents into an online tool (such as http://pastebin.com/ )
If you are connected to Google Drive and having issues, there’s a recent issue detected connecting to GoogleDrive, I’ve reported this issue to our System admins.
As soon as the issue is fixed, I’ll update you.

Sorry for the inconvenience! I’ve reported this issue to our System admins, it looks like there’s SSL issue and they are looking into this.

Can you please check now?
LetsEncrypt recently changed their methods for SSL renewal, So it failed to update the SSL.
However our System admins have fixed the SSL issue now.
Please give a try connecting to remote storage.

Worked perfectly this morning backup completed and uploaded to Google Drive, all back to normal.
