There is an option for opening pdf files in a new window. The last time I checked it worked.
Please verify that the option is set. Make sure that you refresh the page and if you use coudflare you might check that the cache is cleared.
If it still does not work please let me know and I’ll check the code.
I use this on 14 of my personal sites and it still works correctly.
