The problems remains, it seems like for example changing permalink of category slug does not update the breadcrumb index.

Removing a parent category does not update the breadcrumb trail, the old deleted category name remains in url.

Re-saving breadcrumb settings does not update the index in this matter

The only way is to download and install Yoast Test Helper and press “Reset indexable … “. And then re-index again.

    Then everything is fine.

Somehow, it feels more comfortable or feel “safe” to always have a button to manually re-index and reset sitemap.

Changing permalink structure or removing terms MUST be available on development sites before live.

    Hi,

Could you confirm if this issue is occurring on WordPress 5.5 and Yoast SEO for WordPress 14.8.1? Would it be possible for you to provide us with a sample URL where this is occurring and steps on how to reproduce this?

We do know that some changes were introduced in v14.7 of the plugin which you can check in the changelog here — https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/change-log-wordpress-seo/

    • Shows a more specific notification about why the reindexing of SEO data is needed when the permalinks are reset or when the category base setting is changed.
    • Fixes a bug where reindexing would not be done for indexables without a permalink.
    • Fixes a bug where an indexable’s permalink remained unchanged when the categories prefix option was changed.

Hi, this is not plugin related. We had te same issue with no plugins installed, on pages filtered by wordpress standard hooks. (Another tread some month ago)

We of cource testing on latest enviroments, different scenarios before asking support here. There are many cases, not only “one www to point and show issues to”. And broken breadcrumbs is not something we keep live… We always fix with the reset Yoast plugin tool…

    Please understand the problem:

If you have a category set up like “Travel” -> “Greece” -> “Athens” and a permalink structure the same in breadcrumbs, with “blog” as base (or without), then go to “Categories” Rename the slug “Greece” to “mediterranean”, the Yoast breadcrumb will still serve the old slug.

Or if you delete a category so the old becomes “Travel” -> “Athens”, the breadcrumb does not pickup this.

    etc etc

There are more scenarios, like moving a dev to live server. There is always critical changes even live, on ex permalink setup, when client starts to add products, categories or whatever.

A button on Tools “Clear index and do it again” would solve a lot, as we DO EXPECT that moving around slugs needs to manually “flush”, just like WP core, recount terms, WPML, and many other plugins.

/Great cleanup by the way with 14.x, and the new approach is really nice

@intervik Does the issue resolve if you do the following?

      1. Install & activate the Yoast Test Helper plugin
      2. Go to Tools -> Yoast Test
      3. Hit the “Reset Indexables & Migrations” button
      4. Click the “Click here to speed up your site now” button.

Please read. As I already wrote in my first description above:

The only way is to download and install Yoast Test Helper and press “Reset indexable … “. And then re-index again.

    You answered:

Does the issue resolve if you do the following?
    1. Install & activate the Yoast Test Helper plugin …

Read: “Please understand the problem:” in my second answer.

Do not close before reading the replies.

Report this to a developer, or test the bug. We cant have bug live and “link to my website” for this matter.

    Hi @intervik,

You mentioned that you’ve been solving problems with Yoast SEO by resetting the indexables tables, but you don’t want to have to continue doing this. If that’s correct, this sounds like you’re making a bug report or a feature request, not a support request. We’re sorry for any misunderstanding.

If you’d like to give feedback about the plugin’s behavior that causes you to need to reindex or to suggest changes to the way the plugin handles this, our developers are actively using the bug tracking on our GitHub repository. Your best next step would be to create a new issue or feature request at https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/new.
