Support » Fixing WordPress » Still no way to convert a tag to custom taxonomy?

  • I’ve been looking for awhile. Much have been said but couldn’t find a concrete way to convert standard tags: “blue”, “1999”, “big” to:

    custom taxonomies:
    “colors” -> “blue”
    “size” -> “big”
    “year” -> “1999”

    If you know how to do this please tell me.
    thank you!

  • What you want is pretty much impossible to do.

    The issue is… looking at your example, knowing year isn’t to bad because it’s a 4-digit integer (unless someone adds it as a 2-digit integer…) but how would the system know what is meant to be a size and what’s meant to be a colour? They are both text strings and can both have values of varying lengths, so there’s no easy way for a computer to tell the difference.

    Isn’t there a plugin like the “convert categories to tags”
    Where you can select a tag and convert it to a custom taxonomy of choice?
    Is this impossible too?

    thanks!
