Sticky Post without being featured (5 posts)

Using TwentyFourteen Theme and I want to have a Sticky Post without it being featured.

I have no featured posts - have hassles with getting images right and they look ugly without an image and take up too much space anyway.

With the theme, if I don't have a featured post then s Sticky post becomes featured.

    Any way around this?

    Thanks!

Not without some custom editing but do not edit the Twenty Fourteen theme. It is the current default WordPress theme and having access to an original, unedited, copy of the theme is vital in many situations. First create a child theme for your changes.

    Thanks! :)

Ok, how about if I just keep on republishing that post after a new post is made and use the current date on the republished post? Should work?

It only needs to be Sticky until June and I can drop it down lower now and then with more prominence getting closer to June.

I have Wordfence installed which checks the theme against repositories. I didn't want to edit the theme since if it is updated edits might be overwritten. Was aware of creating a child theme but thought then if an update to the theme was made I might not get it in the child theme.

If I create a child would updates to the theme propagate down to the child?

Could post an image but would have to go through creating a Sticky again.

    Basically:
    1. Theme supports featured posts set with the featured tag.
    2. If there are no posts with that tag then a Sticky post becomes featured.
    3. Set a post to Sticky with no featured posts and it becomes featured.
