I set up a ‘live’ test with PayPal using a real account, the subscription was set up by PayPal and all seemed good, but for some reason the ‘status’ in the plugin backend always show the subscription as ‘on-hold’ even though the subscription is still active via PayPal.

I updated the ‘inventory’ to remove the 60 minute limit built into WooCommerce but even after manually setting the status back to ‘active’ the system just reverts to ‘on-hold’ shortly after.

Any idea why an active subscription is showing as ‘on-hold’?

    Thanks

  • Hi @liam_uk7,

The status of the subscription will change to active only if the parent order is in processing/complete state. So if you change the status of the subscription to active when the parent order has not been processed/completed, the status of the subscription will not change from “on-hold”.

Subscriptions for WooCommerce plugin is not a 100% compatible with Standard PayPal at the moment (PayPal will automatically handle the recurring payment). We recommend using BrainTree PayPal.

Okay, so now that my inventory time limit is disabled, if I manually update the main order to ‘complete’ and then update the subscription status to ‘active’ this should in theory work to at least display the correct status?

Also, is the goal to make standard PayPal compatible with your plugin in the future? Or is the focus on maintaining the existing gateways that work?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi @liam_uk7

Manually update the main order to ‘complete’ and then update the subscription status to ‘active’ will work for this case. We will let you know if we are doing any updates regarding PayPal standard.

It works in the short term, but for some reason it keeps changing back to ‘on hold’ when I leave it for a little while.

I think I’ll just stick to Stripe for now, thanks for your help all the same!
