    Hi all,
I’ve had my WP website for a while, using a child theme.
Now I want to start a blog, which should be accessed from my website preferable through a link to the blog from the dropdown menue of my WP-website.

Is there any way I can have both? I’ve been playing around now a couple of hours with posts and pages and am slowly but surely going crazy.

If someone could give me a tip or let me know where to find more information about this topic I would be very thankful!
    Thanks,
    Cecilia

  • In your title you say static web page but in your question you say it is a WP site. Which is it?

Your blog page is just a list of posts by category. There should be a template for this in your theme. If not just create on in your child theme.

Use Google, it is your friend:

Add a page called “Blog”, then, under settings->readings, set that page as your posts page. Now, http://example.com/blog will list all your posts.

    Thanks Sterndat!
I did this and unfortunately it looks like s**t.
I can’t seem to access the sidebars for the front page. I can’t follow the instructions suggested on the “Blog”-page for creating sidebars for the posts-front page.
Maybe it’s the child theme that messes up the page, since I can’t seem to chose other sidebars than those specified for (the static) index-page.
I’ll have to figure out how to get a round this. I created a sidebar and tried to chose it both in the posts and on the page called “Blog”. Didn’t work though.

Thanks anyhow! I’m thankful for further tips!

    Best,
    Cecilia

Please provide either a link to your site or tell me what theme you’re using.

Thanks Sterndata – really nice of you!
Thing is, I think it all has to do with the Childtheme, which someone did for me a while ago and it’s not really transparent, at least to me, what’s going on.

In any case, theme is Twenty eleven, and here is the link to index and blog page.

My brother who’s into programming will look into this, and if you have tips for him what to check/ look for for solving this I am very (!) thankful.

The sidebar content should be visible under appearance->widgets

@Sterndaata, yea, I know, I did a sidebar specificalla for the blog page, and selected this in the posts.
I also wanted to select it for the page called blog, but there, there were some inconsistencies:
It says I should select front page and the the side bar, but I don’t find this when looking under widgets. I only seem to be able to make an individualized sidebar.
Anyhow, thanks for your answer, I think there is something on the childtheme’s css that overrides everything and I’ll ask my brother to have a look at it.

    Thanks and best,
    Cecilia
