This “home page control” plugin might be what you’re looking for: http://www.ilfilosofo.com/blog/home-page-control/
hmm im not html savvy and that way looks way to hard for me to understand
Believe me when I tell you that the “other way” is FAR more difficult.
@duck:
Really?
Try reading it again. Don’t panic.
First thing you’ll notice is that to make a WordPress page “static”, using this plugin, there’s no HTML or coding involved.
Scared of Plugins? Have a look at the Managing_Plugins page. Still no HTML 🙂
when i created a blog at the wordpress site under options and under writing it asked if i wanted to make a page static.
but since then i decided that i wanted to have my wp blog on my own server and now that i did that. under the options section and under writing it doesnt have that option
Handy when it says to change a file name im afraid that i might mess a file up. i already did that once and i dont wanna do that again
btw im blonde & a redneck so its not a good combination
Yes, the free WordPress.COM blog is a bit different than what you get and install from WordPress.ORG. Some things are easier, and some things are impossible. But yes, things will be different.
I gave you a link, in this thread, to a plugin that will do what you want. Have you read that link?
well, you could be a red blonde-neck I suppose. 😉
If you follow the instructions closely, you’ll be just fine. Honest!
ok from what i understand from that link i need to make a home.php file
in my .htaccess file i already have the following.
DirectoryIndex index.html
DirectoryIndex index.php
so where these two i have to add a that home.php
if you havent figured out yet im new to this whole thing so im still in the learning process
Why are we editing the .htaccess file?
well thats what i had to do last nite just to get my blog to work i had to add a file called index.php in the .htaccess
If the blog’s still working, let’s just focus on the plugin I linked to you earlier and not muck about in .htaccess.
No need to add/change anything there! 🙂
ok good
im rereading that link from above and the more i read it the more confused i get
the page i created that i want to be static. would it work if i change the name to add the .php
for example if you go to my blog which is at http://www.duckpuddle.net/blog
on the right side you will see a page called DuckPuddle.net which is the page i want to be static
now if i change that page name to DuckPuddle.net.php will the coding catch it and automatically make a static page
