Static homepage and separate blog page

I am trying to setup a new site completely through WordPress and am hosting it with my own hosting provider. What I am having trouble figuring out is how to make my homepage just a homepage with some intro copy and then make a separate blog page, which all blog posts funnel into. I am having major problems figuring this out. Right now I have blog posts going into the homepage and when I created a separate blog page nothing is going into it. I am doing something wrong in the code and cannot figure out… HELP!!
