Support » Fixing WordPress » Static Front Page doesn't display the correct page, but redirects to wrong page

    Hi,

I selected a static page as my Front Page from Settings > Reading.

And everything works great on my computer that’s logged in to my WordPress, but if I try my site’s url on any other computer or device (not logged in) I get redirected to another page on the site. This redirected page also happens to my first alphabetical page: mysitename.org/careers

The page is published but it hasn’t been added to any of my menus yet, and as I mentioned, I have a different page assigned to be the static Front Page.

Instead, what happens when you go to my site is you get the /careers page and that’s it. If you hit any other link or button it keeps redirecting you back to the /careers page. Because of this, I can’t even access my /wp-login page from another computer…so it’s causing me some issues.

    – Am I doing something wrong?
    – Is this a search engine problem, since my site is brand new?
    – Is this a problem with my theme? (Dante)

    – What should I do?

    Thanks!
Here’s my site, under constructions still, obviously: thebrookses.org

Even though a different page is set to the static front page, what is set as the blog? And is the static front page set as the home page, or posts?

Also, do you have any type of SEO and/or redirect plugin installed that perhaps could have populated its information with redirecting to this page? If you do, try deactivating it to see if the problem clears up. Sometimes those types of plugins auto update when a page changes, and perhaps there was a “chain reaction” of sorts?

    Thanks for the reply, Becky.

I tried deactivating plug-ins and the problem is still happening.

The blog is not set as the home page, but a page separate from Home. The home page and static page are set to be the same. Between using Settings > Readings, and trying several different Menus options I can’t seem to shake the reoccurring redirect of this one random page.

Do you recommend getting into the PHP? (SEE LINK below for example.) I’m no expert, so I’d rather not take the risk of crashing my new site if I don’t have to, but I’m not sure if that’s the correct course of action or not.

    Thanks!

No, the link you shared about static pages refers to older versions of WordPress before the setting could be done in the Reading pane. Since all the pages redirect, the next thing to check is your .htaccess file on your server. If there’s a redirect set up there with a wildcard that encompasses the whole site, that would explain it. It doesn’t seem to be a PHP issue, but either a server- or plugin-based issue.

    Thanks Becky!

I finally fixed it! But you know how…oh geez…I’d forgotten that I enabled Dante’s Maintenance Mode in Theme Settings > General Settings…and I had it set to the Careers page. No wonder!

Well geez… There went my day, but I learned a whole lot about htaccess and goodness knows what else.

Feeling blessed. Thanks for all your helpful support, I truly appreciate it.

    Many many many thanks
