Support » Fixing WordPress » static front page

  • Hi. I am new to web site installation/ building. I installed everything ok. This week I was trying to watch videos and learn how to set things up. I decided it was best for a static front page. I followed the directions and then when I went back to the site it has disappeared. I am getting the mesaage – This page isn’t working
iansova.com redirected you too many times.

    ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS

I know that I must have done it wrong but I cant even get to the site to change it back.

Any ideas on how to get back in to wordpress and change it back.

    Thank you!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @iansova!

Although your home page isn’t available, your other pages seems to be. I’ve could access the hello world post and your wordpress log in screen.

It’s probably a .htaccess trouble, so if you go to Dashboard in Settings -> Permalink and save (without changing anything) you should be good to go.

    Felipe.

Thank you. Unfortunately I cant get access to wordpress to change anything. It suggested that I get rid of all the cookies on my browser so I did so. Now it is not accepting my password. I didn’t change it so I am lost as to what to do. I had just started so I am not worried about any content loss.

I reset my password and I am in. ( I think ) but the site is gone. I am in the wordpress log in not the site log in that I usually use but I cant get there. I am not seeing the dashboard like like i am used to- I did check settings on this page and it does not showing Permalink.

You can try to reset your password, @iansova. There is a codex page explaining several ways to do that.

You could reinstall WordPress as well (erasing all files and database tables, and starting it all over), but I can see you already made some small modifications, so I’d take the resetting password way. It may seem complicated, but it’s quite easy actually. If your site can send emails, you can start the easiest way of changing your password through this screen.

Ok great. Trying now. Thank you.

Nice, come back here if you have any doubts.

The Permalinks screen is this one: https://codex.wordpress.org/images/thumb/c/c5/options-permalinks.png/800px-options-permalinks.png

I was never able to get the issue resolved and still have the
    ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS issue.

I didn’t have a bunch of work up there yet so I tried to just start over.

I can see that I don’t have the “static front page” showing.

I am thinking now that with the site started that I lost my DNS info maybe. I have it with Go daddy and they helped me install it before but I am not sure what to do.

I have iansova.com and iansova.net (that is supposed to point to the dot com address) In word press I see i the option for the iansova.com or the iansova.com/wordpress. I am not sure which one to use.

My whois information is below if that helps.

Just noticed I am getting this at the top of my dashboard so I guess the DNS is not right .
iansova.com’s name server records should be configured. Learn more

So I just changed the nameservers at go daddy to reflect what word press suggested I change it to. As written below.

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

I am now waiting to see if the site will propagate now.

    Hi @iansova,

WordPress.com and WordPress.org are different things. You can see the differences here: https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_vs_WordPress.com

So, probably your problem wasn’t related to DNS, since it was possible to acess at least one page. If you didn’t solve this already, try to redo the DNS configuration and start it all over (again).
