starts creating an archive but then gets stuck

The Duplicator starts creating an archive but then gets stuck indefinitely at ‘Creating Archive 0%’ without displaying any errors. The spinning wheel continues but nothing happens. There is also no output in the log, regardless of whether using mysqldump or PHP code, ZipArchive or DupArchive. There is sufficient memory available, and it has access to all the data.

Duplicator deinstallieren, neu installieren und dann NICHT die deutsche Übersetzung installieren hat bei mir geholfen. Backup ging dann wieder.

Uninstalling Duplicator, reinstalling it but then NOT installing the German translations has helped me out. Creating a backup worked again after these steps.

The solution that worked for me it actually alot simpler:

Go to the Duplicator settings and change anything, e. g. turn tracelog on. Save the settings. Revert your prior changes and save again. Bingo, package creation running smoothly again.

So at least all Germans are fine since then 😉

I’m pleased to inform you that the development team has successfully identified and resolved the issue in the latest Duplicator release. As you mentioned, the problem stemmed from the German translation.
