Hello everyone. I need to import my standalone websites into wordpress multisite. The problem is, I need to use exactly same urls as they are now.

    So, I have this websites:

    mydomain.com
    sub1.mydomain.com
    sub2.mydomain.com.

I would love to keep mydomain.com as it is and just activate network on it.

Then I would export sub1.mydomain.com and sub2.mydomain.com, erase them, add them to multisite and then import corresponding .xml files.

Problem: While importing .xml files, I would love to take photos and attachments also. But, thats not possible because I will already delete old websites.

Can I for example create sub3 and sub4, import photos and attachments, then delete sub1 and sub2 and change urls of sub3 and sub4 to sub1 and sub2 ?

Yes, provided you’re smart and careful 🙂

Make 100% absolutely certain that the subdomain names of sub3 and sub4 are exactly the same character length as sub1 and sub2.

For example, if you want to bring in john.example.com, turn on multisite and make joh2.example.com

Import your posts to joh2, make it look right, and then delete john (or rename).

Now go in to Network Admin -> Sites -> Edit.

Check the box to change BOTH urls, and change joh2 to john

    Have a beer 🙂
