SSL certificate and subdirectory (6 posts)

We're running WordPress multisite and have just installed a wildcard SSL certificate on our VPS server. We would like to secure some forms in just a small part of our site, just a subdirectory. I created a subdomain, redirected it to the secure subdirectory, changed the Home and Site URL to include https. The results can be seen here:
    https://mwcc.edu/sand/ - 404 error message
    http://mwcc.edu/sand/ - no css

I've also tried the HTTPS plugin on a single page and again get a 404:

Does anybody have any experience with this sort of thing? What am I missing here?

  2. I created a subdomain, redirected it to the secure subdirectory

Wait... what's that extra step for?

I read somewhere in this forum that you need to go in through the network dashboard and change http to https under siteurl and home in the settings for the subsite.

  4. But ... that doesn't explain why you have a subDOMAIN redirecting to a subDIRECTORY. That doesn't make any sense...

I thought I either had to install the certificate for the entire site or specify a subdomain...but I'm guessing that's not right. All I want is a secure subdirectory. How do I go about setting it up?

  6. You should be securing the real domain. mwcc.edu has the SSL cert, and then it's active for everything under that domain. You use the plugin to force SSL for the page you want, and you're good.
