 * First, I am a complete newbie to WP. I do, however, have 13 years experience
   with Joomla.
 * Anyway, when I try to implement my free SSL cert offered by inMotion Hosting
it breaks the frontend of the site and slows the backend to a crawl.
 * I have searched and read, tried several plugins, searched and replaced http://
with https:// in my DB. I’ve spent half a day trying to solve this issue.
 * Thing is with Joomla it was a couple of mouse clicks and it was done.
 * What am I missing and why is this so hard to do?
 * Thanks in advance for any help.
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Fssl-breaks-frontend%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)
   to see the link]_

 * I suggest contacting inmotion hosting to be sure SSL is set up properly.
 * General process after SSL is set up properly and available in webhosting….
    1-
Change URL in database options table 2-Update URLs to https that did not automatically
change. A search and replace plugin is normally a good idea. Sometimes URLs might
be hiding in theme files and functions file. Sometimes URLs might be hiding in
   CSS file. I use [https://www.whynopadlock.com/](https://www.whynopadlock.com/)
   too to check the site.

 * Thanks. I’ll give that a try. However, as I’ve used those SSL certs on 40 Joomla
sites, I’m sure InMotion’s end is OK.
 * It sure seems like one has to go through a ton of work just to do this compared
to the other platform. I want to learn and use WP. It offers things that Joomla
does not, but this SSL deal is ridiculous.
 * Thanks again. I’ll try that link you suggested.

 * My test results are all positive. Green checkmarks down the line.
 * I’m at a loss here.
